Getting to Las Terrenas

For travelers from the US it is easiest to fly into Santo Domingo (American, Continental, Delta and Jetblue). You can rent a car with any of the large international rental companies and drive to Las Terrenas in about 2 hours. The new toll way which starts just outside the airport is excellent. It ends about 40km from Las Terrenas. This last stretch is a bit of a challenge with  some interesting potholes. Alternatively you can take a shuttle or taxi (US$ 180) or a local flight.

There are flights from Toronto and Europe into El Catey. From there it is about 45 min drive (along the same potholed road) to Las Terrenas.

Local airlines

You can take a scheduled flight or charter to El Portillo in Las Terrenas (30 min flight).

Take-off

We use Take-off for the regular flight from SDQ (Santo Domingo- Las America) to El Portillo, which is approximately 20 min from the house. They also run a shuttle service from Las Americas and El Catey to Las Terrenas.

Aerodomca

We use Aerodomca for a private charter. This is $265 for 2 persons and $450 for 4-5 persons.  They will have the plane ready when you arrive and take you to El Portillo in about 30 min.  Reservations (24 hr): E-mail: sales@aerodomca.com

Car & Quad rental

Quads are a popular way to move around. They rent for around $50/ day. Although these are a lot of fun we also recommend car rental, as it is more practical for shopping and when it rains. 4 WD rent for around $65. Scooters are around $15.

There are several rental places. We have good experience with Rosela & Manuel – Calle Duarte 22, next to Banco Popular. ☎ (809) 803 6121

For a quick, cheap and easy ride, you can stop a “moto concho” in the street; you can recognize these drivers by their neon orange vests.

Taxi

There are a couple of taxis (minibuses) in town that are quite reliable. They charge $15 (DR$ 500) for a trip from the house to town or the airport. Phone numbers:
