


Getting to Las TerrenasFor travelers from the US it is easiest to fly into Santo Domingo (American, Continental, Delta and Jetblue). You can rent a car with any of the large international rental companies and drive to Las Terrenas in about 2 hours. The new toll way which starts just outside the airport is excellent. It ends about 40km from Las Terrenas. This last stretch is a bit of a challenge with some interesting potholes. Alternatively you can take a shuttle or taxi (US$ 180) or a local flight.There are flights from Toronto and Europe into El Catey. From there it is about 45 min drive (along the same potholed road) to Las Terrenas.Local airlinesYou can take a scheduled flight or charter to El Portillo in Las Terrenas (30 min flight).
Take-off We use Take-off for the regular flight from SDQ (Santo Domingo- Las America) to El Portillo, which is approximately 20 min from the house. They also run a shuttle service from Las Americas and El Catey to Las Terrenas.
Aerodomca We use Aerodomca for a private charter. This is $265 for 2 persons and $450 for 4-5 persons. They will have the plane ready when you arrive and take you to El Portillo in about 30 min. Although these are a lot of fun we also recommend car rental, as it is more practical for shopping and when it rains. 4 WD rent for around $65. Scooters are around $15.

For a quick, cheap and easy ride, you can stop a “moto concho” in the street; you can recognize these drivers by their neon orange vests. TaxiThere are a couple of taxis (minibuses) in town that are quite reliable. They charge $15 (DR$ 500) for a trip from the house to town or the airport.
